Champagne! Tasting in the Medieval Cellars

For this first episode of our series “Live an unforgettable experience”, destination the medieval cellars for a comparative tasting of champagne!

We have an appointment at 7.30pm. The entrance to the medieval cellars is at the foot of the Town Hall Square in the exotic Chamorin no-through road, between a Japanese restaurant and an Indian restaurant. Apart from a small sign indicating the Medieval Cellars, nothing suggests the hidden treasure below this no-through road.

experience-degustation-caves-medievalesAnthony, œnologist and sommelier at the Grande Boutique du Vin in Châlons is waiting for us. Once everyone has arrived, he accompanies us a floor down. Here we are in the Medieval Cellars, 200 square meters large, dating back to the 13th and 15th century. Amazing beauty !

Before starting the tasting, Anthony leaves us a few minutes to discover this beautiful area. We then start the tasting. Installed around high tables, we listen attentively to this expert who knows the wines he has chosen for us like the back of his hands.

experience-degustation-caves-medievale-champagneHe invites us to taste three champagnes, all as excellent as each other, all different, by their terroir, the history of their producers, their production methods … Anthony is a passionate, what we feel throughout the tasting thanks to his relevant and captivating comments.

experience-degustation-caves-medievale-champagne-1The nice surprise is that with every champagne tasted, he serves us an accompaniment to nibble, always in agreement with the wines. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, the languages are loosened, the questions fuse: we’re all having a great moment. (We specify that this is not due to the abuse of these delicious champagnes). So much so that we do not see the time passing and that nearly an hour and a half has passed, when the tasting ends.

It’s time for us to leave, the taste buds still sparkling, the phones full of photos and our head full of memories !

Cheers !
