Gardens, Parks and Hiking

A desire to walk, to jog or to simply dream? Châlons-en-Champagne offers three parks that cover an area of ​​over 15 hectares as wall as nearly 100km of hiking trails around town.


Within a few minutes and staying in the heart of town, we move from a strictly urban setting to… the countryside or almost.

Indeed, journalists and communicators are not mistaken and have often used the terms “Garden City” or “City of water and greenery” to describe Chalons-en-Champagne.


Inherited from the Middle Ages, the three gardens of Châlons have been built for a century and a half. Real green lungs in the heart of the city, they are places to walk and stroll that have been enjoyed by generations of Châlons’ inhabitants.

They are also places of parties, events and shows: the festival of gardens which takes place the first Sunday of July, Châlons Beach, concerts, fireworks, performances of the FURIES festival (circus and street art), etc …


Le Petit Jard (The Small Garden) :

Ranked remarkable garden, it houses an arboretum which includes many rare species. It is crossed by the river Nau that flows through the “Chateau du Marché”, a former fortified bridge, emblematic of the city.


Le Grand Jard (The Large Garden) :

This is the place where people come to have fun, romp, play sports. Beyond its vast basins separated by alleys of chestnut trees, the Lateral Canal de la Marne. One can admire from the riverbank, the “bay of the Jard”, protected space as it is hosting rare species of birds.

Le Jard Anglais (The English Garden) :

To access it, you have to take the pretty footbridge which has a breathtaking view on the cathedral. In the English Garden, you can walk on foot but also on skates or bicycle. Large green areas invite you to relax or play.



Hiking Circuits


Leaving Chalons-en-Champagne, you will find more than 100km of hiking and various natural areas (Domaine de Coolus, Sensory Garden of Haussimont, etc…).

These hiking trails are available at the Tourist Office or downloadable in our section tracks, walks and hikes.
And if walking is not for you, we suggest renting bicycles and Segways at the tourist office.
